The Brother-In-Law's Intervention

Watching R Us the Brother-In-Laws.  One of many such stories.

My sub-contractors from an office renovation project had been telling me that they often see my brother having intimate meals at a restaurant near the site with the staff appointed by client to oversee it.  That would have been fine if he is still single.  I know too that the lady involved was engaged to be married soon.

I decided to do something about it when my wife told me that my sis-in-law was facing depression as she suspected that her husband was having an affair.  She told her that my brother has been buying hotel vouchers with deals for free or discounted stay and meals at affiliate hotels.  The whole package cost more than RM400 and so far they have only gone for one buffet meal together.  He claimed that he did not utilized the hotel vouchers for free stay at a local hotel and that they have expired.  When he bought the same package the following year, he did not offer to allow her visiting relatives to utilize the vouchers for free stay, as she has requested.   So, she believed that her husband had used the hotel vouchers to cheat on her.

When the project was almost completed, I decided to invite everyone involved in the project and I extended the invitation to my brother’s family.  Everyone arrived on time for the lunch at the restaurant where the illicit “couple” frequented.  However, before everyone could be seated, my brother left the restaurant saying that he had something to attend to at the worksite.

We were almost half way through lunch before he returned.  When his wife left the table to go to the staff counter, I could tell he was very nervous.  On her return, he enquired what she had asked the waiter.  It turned out that she was just asking for an extra spoon so that she could share the soup he had ordered.

By now, my client’s staff should have noticed how close my brother was with his wife and their children.  I hope that after this gathering, she will stop the adulterous relationship with my brother.

When it was time for Christmas, I decided to visit my client to send him a hamper.  He invited me to join him for lunch and we went to that restaurant nearby.  There I noticed many Christmas cards pinned on their notice board.  One of them was a family photo of my brother’s family.  It was a thank you note from my sis-in-law to the staff for the good services rendered.

It made me wonder if she was aware of her husband’s illicit get together with the other woman at the restaurant and her way of nipping it at the bud.
