He invited everyone at the meeting out for lunch and I was one of them. He is the new contractor my company engaged to renovate a client’s office and I was the site supervisor. Whenever we have discussions about the site, he would suggest that we go to a restaurant nearby for drinks. As the project took a few months to complete, it became a routine and we picked to have our discussions in the mornings over breakfast or during our tea breaks.

I realised that I was looking forward to working at sites he handles. Come Saturdays, he would take us to new restaurants he discovered just to try out new dishes. Sometimes, it was just the two of us when the others are not keen to travel long distances just to have a meal. These were exciting moments for me as I enjoy the ride and the attention. There is always a cake waiting for me at the office on my birthdays and he remembers what I love to eat. How could anyone not fall for his charm?

When he offered to give my boyfriend and I a voucher for a free stay at a local hotel, I suggested that we use it ourselves. That was the beginning of our affair. I was very sure that he was in love with me. After all, he included me in a holiday trip overseas, his company organised for his staff and families.

It was during that holiday that I realised that he has a close knit family. Looking at them taking photographs together, it did not look like he has plans to leave his wife. I showed my displeasure and gave him a hard time at work when we returned from the trip.

I have been misguided and mistook his attention for love.
